GARETT, PT. 2

 Honoring Garett

Last Saturday, Garett’s Gift, Inc. held its annual benefit to raise money in Garett Colona’s memory. The gifts are used to bless the lives of others and to honor Garett’s spirit throughout the year. The first year the benefit raised $7,000 and last year $9000 was raised. Money was given to provide medical transportation, pay rent and school expenses. A scholarship was also given to a deserving student whose goal is to become a neurosurgeon. This year, the benefit raised over $8500 and one can only imagine the wonderful things it will provide for some deserving people.

 “I love you doing that.”

Today, June 9th, would have been Garett’s 28th birthday. His mom told us that when he was very little, Garett was watching her work and he said to her, “I love you doing that.” She asked us that today, on June 9th, we spread some love by thinking of Garett and saying to someone, “I love you doing that.” Just another small way to honor Garett’s spirit.

 How to:

First, I gessoed an 8” x 10” canvas and then adhered scraps of paper with matte medium, (Liquitex).

Next, I penciled in my scene and then used various shades of turquoise paint to achieve the look I wanted. The background was a mix of shades of gray and turquoise.

I finished using shades of pink for the ranunculus, citron green for the stems, and shades of cream for the small jar. I adhered 2 labels from scraps and stamp a script stamp using gray staz-on.
Today is a perfect day – lots of sunshine, blue skies, warm breeze, and no humidity. Thanks, God. I love you doing that! I hope you’ve enjoyed this post and will join me every Tuesday and Friday for more blog posts at arteverydaystudio.blogspot.com.
