WE ARE THE MIGHTY, MIGHTY BLUEJAYS

Let us be lovely and let us be kind.
Let us be silly and free.
 It won't make us famous,
 it won't make us rich.
But dammit how happy we'll be.

 STILL AWAKE

I’m writing this at 4:57 a.m. not because I’m an early riser, but because I’ve been awake for the last 2 hours thinking about last night - my 40th high school class reunion. Yeah, I’m not one of those people who say, “I haven’t talked to ‘em in the last twenty years, I don’t need to start now.” I’m the “Oh yeah, can’t wait to see everybody!” kinda person.

Last night I talked and laughed with so many classmates. Lots of them I’d know anywhere. Some maybe not so much and we’d have to look at the name tags on our chests, but then it was even funnier to see eyes get wide when faces and names came together. I mean, come on, it has been 40 (did I say 40??!!) years, and you know those waistlines seem to grow, and where there used to be lots of hair, (after all, it was the 70s), now maybe none!!

 CONNECTING

So many genuine, squeeze you hugs. Not just “Oh hey!” hugs, but “It really is so good to see you, I’ve really missed you!” hugs. Sometimes there were, “I’m so sorry!” hugs like when I talked with a classmate who is struggling with metastatic lung cancer that has traveled to her brain, or to a classmate who said she hated school because she was bullied. But my favorite hugs came from my friend who I hadn’t seen in 30 (?) years who told me, “I told my husband, you were the only person I came to see!”

 THE ART

Note: I have received some products from The Crafter's Workshop; however, even though I use and love their products, all opinions are solely my own. #ad #advertising #sponsor

For our silent auction, I made this canvas. We graduated in 1978, our school colors were blue and gold, and our mascot was the blue jay; so I used 4 blue feathers, one for every 10 years, and on the feathers I wrote, “we are the blue jays, the mighty, mighty blue jays!” I’m happy to say it went to a very good home!

Connecting, people. Isn’t that what life’s all about?? I hope you’ve enjoyed this post and will join me here every Saturday for another blog post and on Facebook and Instagram.
