FEBRUARY IS NATIONAL ________ MONTH

 Did you know? 

Fill in the blank – February is National ___________ Month. 

I’m sure you can immediately think of the normal ones we hear every year – American Heart Month, Black History Month, National Children’s Dental Health Month and National Cherry Month (a nod to George, of course). But did you know there are over 20 monthly observances for February?! I didn’t. And what I found funny was the types of observances. Did you know that you could have filled in that blank above with Bird Feeding, Bake for Family Fun, Snack Food, Macadamia Nut and Grapefruit??! 

 My favorite 

They’re all great, but my favorite has to be National Library Lovers Month. As you know if you read Step Into My Office, I visit my local library at least once a week. I’ve also had a library card since 3rd grade and was lucky to be able to ride my bike just 2 blocks from my childhood home to spend many hours in that wonderful mid-century model building. Last October, I visited the library in Tracy California and it was like stepping back into that library building from my childhood. 

 Not your same old library 

Libraries have evolved with the times. My library’s upstairs is the “QUIET Zone” where the computers (and me) are located. Downstairs has the ping pong table, lots of chairs for socializing, and (gasp!) food and drink snacks. It’s nice that kids have a safe place to stay after school to wind down and relax until their parents get off work. Hopefully, they’ll read some too.
