MAGIC LEAF

Don't save something for a special occasion. Every day of  your life is a special occasion.

 Playing Favorites

Do you have every color of spray ink, ink pad, or sari ribbon? Do you get giddy whenever Tim Holtz shares new products? Are you on a first name basis with your local craft store? I get it! You’re not alone. So many colors and textures and goodies! The truth is, I’ve gone past being able to remember every supply I own even though I am organized. But have you ever been looking in your stash for a certain something and found something else you weren’t looking for; (that’s called serendipity and I love when that happens!); but then I think, “How could I have ever forgotten I had that??” I get used to using that favorite stamp or stencil, the same paint color, or the technique in the same journal. Does that happen to you too? Those are creative ruts, people. Let’s break free!

 Close Your Eyes

Why don’t you look in a different drawer today? Close your eyes and reach for a paint color, a stencil, a stamp, whatever, and use it. Today. Make a card and send it. Create a journal page with something different and post it. Celebrate your art, don’t save it for a special occasion. Every day is special.

These cards are made with products from a company that I think is, unfortunately, not in business anymore; but these supplies are ones I’ve not used in a long while so I took my own advice and had a great time.

 How to:

I choose a Paper Charm, and some Magic Leaf from Amy’s Magic, Inc. Other supplies I used were a frame stamp, embossing stamp pad, fine detail embossing powder, washi tape, and a white card and envelope.

To begin, stamp the frame with tinted embossing ink onto white paper and then emboss with gold detail embossing powder and heat gun. Cut out the frame both inside and outside.

Next, cut a piece of double sided tape to fit just inside the perimeter of the embossed frame. (Yes, that’s a monster-size roll of double sided tape!)

Place the paper charm in the middle and proceed by filling in with the magic leaf. Once you have covered the surface area, burnish with your finger and tap off the remaining pieces of magic leaf that didn’t stick. In the photo, the magic leaf on the left has not been burnished while the one on the right has.

Next, I used a script stamp and Archival Ink in magenta hue to stamp a background on the card and added washi tape (Michaels).

I outlined the edge of the prepared frame with a gold uni-ball pen, backed it with pink paper and taped it to the card. Last but not least, I thought it needed a ribbon bow. Now I have a card for a special friend!

I completed a second card in a more contemporary style.

I hope you will make something with a “new” old supply and will join me every Tuesday and Friday for more blog posts at arteverydaystudio.blogspot.com.
